Piraeus Bank has partnered with Accenture to establish a new artificial intelligence (AI) hub aimed at expanding the development and implementation of AI across its operations.
The bank said the hub will serve as a central platform for designing, developing and implementing advanced AI capabilities across the value chain. The initiative is backed by AI research firm Anthropic and is expected to strengthen key areas such as compliance, operations, customer experience, and risk management.
The AI Hub also aims to strengthen talent development by attracting and upskilling specialized professionals through targeted recruitment and structured learning programs. These include training initiatives delivered through Accenture’s AI-focused learning platform.
The move builds on Piraeus Bank’s continued collaboration with Accenture, which began with the adoption of a cloud-first operating model in 2021. The latest initiative leverages Accenture’s data and Athens’ AI Center of Excellence to accelerate the bank’s broader digital transformation strategy.
Harry Margaritis, Chief Operating Officer, Piraeus Banking Groupdescribed the launch as a “strategic turning point” for the organization. “We are evolving from discrete AI implementations to integrated, enterprise-level capabilities that are deeply embedded in how banks operate,” he said.
He also emphasized the importance of responsible AI implementation. “Through our collaboration with Accenture and the integration of Anthropic’s technology, including our flagship model Claude, we aim to responsibly scale advanced AI based on strong governance, transparency, and human control,” Margaritis added.
Separately, the bank continues to expand its digital services. The company recently further strengthened its position in digital banking innovation by launching Snappi, Greece’s first European Central Bank licensed neobank, in collaboration with Natech and Neptune International.
