X users are using sound to tag Perplexity's AI and create short videos, but worries about misinformation persist.
Now integrated with X (formerly Twitter), Perplexity's AI chatbot has introduced the ability to allow users to generate short AI-created videos with sound.
By tagging @askperplexity with a short prompt, the user receives an 8-second clip with computer-generated visuals and audio containing the dialog. The move comes as a potential driver of engagement on Elon Musk-owned platforms.
However, concerns have emerged about the possibility that misinformation could spread more easily. Perplexity claims to have installed a strong filter to limit abuse, but X's insufficient content moderation continues to promote skepticism.
This feature is already used to create imaginative videos that have sparked debate about ethical use.
The competition between Perplexity's “Ask” bot and Musk's Grok AI is intensifying, with the former leading the multimedia capabilities. Despite its popularity with X, Grok currently does not support video generation.
Meanwhile, what's perplexing about other platforms, including WhatsApp, is that they provide AI services directly without the need for another app or registration.
Legal issues are also emerging. The BBC is threatening legal action against confusion over alleged misuse of content for AI training. In a strongly expressed letter, the station requests that content be removed, compensated, and ceased ceasing the suspension.
Perplexity dismissed the claim that the BBC was manipulative, denounced by misleading techniques and copyright laws.
