Eating disorder advocacy groups warn that the results are “almost unrealistic”, saying that the AI-collected images inspired by social media are comparable to all other images found on the world wide web. It added that it had “a lot more sexual content” than images based on things.

Artificial intelligence has generated an idea of what an “ideal” man and woman might look like, based on social media data and results on the World Wide Web.
AI images of men and women were created through social media engagement analysis using tools that examine images of billions of people.
The Binge Eating Project, an eating disorder advocacy group, monitored the findings and warned that the results were “almost unrealistic” in portraying body types.
The image of women leans toward blonde hair, brown eyes, and olive skin, while that of men skews toward brown hair, brown eyes, and olive skin.
It also found that the social media-inspired images collected by the AI were “far more sexually charged” than images based on everything else it found on the world wide web.
The study also showed that there were some differences in body shape preferences between men and women.
Images of the “perfect” female body generated in 2023, according to social media, featured a tanned, Caucasian-looking woman with a slim figure and narrow waist.
For women, 37% of the AI-generated images contained blonde hair, and 53% of the images contained women with olive skin.
Images of the “perfect” male body featured a muscular man with a six pack in a tight T-shirt.
Images were created using the AI image generation tools Dall-E 2, Stable Diffusion and Midjourney.
For men, 67% of the AI-generated images contained brown hair, and 63% of the images contained olive skin.
The Binge Eating Project then asked AI to share its perspective based on images from across the internet.

For the “perfect” woman in 2023 – AI generated images of mostly women with brown eyes, brown hair and tanned skin. For men with the same prompts, an image of a bearded man with predominantly brown eyes and hair was generated.
The Binge Eating Project said, “Considering that social media uses algorithms based on which content has been watched the longest, it’s easy to speculate why the AI renders more sexual.” said.
“However, speculating that the reason AI has come up with so many bizarre versions of physiques found on social media is because these platforms promote unrealistic physiques in the first place. I just can’t.”
