In a tweet, Sharma said: “Here’s the OpenAI blog post from this week: In less than seven years, we have a system that could lead to the crippling, or even annihilation, of humanity. I am deeply concerned about the power that some people and selected nations have already amassed.”

In a blog post published on July 5, OpenAI said: “Superintelligence is the most impactful technology mankind has ever invented, and it could help solve many of the world’s most important problems. It can also be dangerous to humans, leading to the incapacitation and even extinction of the human race.”

“While superintelligence seems far away now, we believe it could happen within the next decade,” added OpenAI.

“Managing these risks will require, among other things, new institutions for governance, and solve the problem of superintelligence coordination,” OpenAI said.

OpenAI said it plans to invest significant resources to ensure its artificial intelligence remains safe for humans, eventually creating a new research team to use AI to monitor itself.
