What’s the story?
OpenAI has released a popular AI video app “Sora” for Android users. This innovative application allows you to create and share personalized videos with the help of artificial intelligence. It was first released on iOS in September and received over 1 million downloads in 5 days. The app is now available on the Google Play Store for users in the United States, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Controversy over Sora
Sora, similar to TikTok, provides a feed of AI-generated videos. The app also has a “cameo” feature that allows you to create content featuring yourself or your friends. However, it has also been criticized for its handling of deepfakes and copyright issues. This prompted OpenAI to rescind its opt-out policy for rights holders in response to criticism.
New “Character Cameo” feature
To coincide with the release of Android, OpenAI also added a new feature to Sora: “Character Cameo” with reusable avatars. In the future, the company plans to offer rights holders the option to charge additional fees for cameo appearances by popular characters and figures. This gives content creators more control over their work, while also providing an avenue for monetization.
Sora 2 AI video engine
Sora uses OpenAI’s Sora 2 AI video engine, but this is only available within the app. The new model has improved dialog and sound synchronization, better compliance with physics, deeper understanding of complex instructions, and more realistic results. It competes directly with Google’s Veo 3.
