In response to government concerns about AI capabilities and proactive intervention, OpenAI announced the wide release of GPT-5.6 Sol, along with a national security framework that outlines the principles that OpenAI will and will not support.
OpenAI on Thursday announced a new enterprise product called ChatGPT Work. It is designed to leverage popular chatbots to perform and automate workplace tasks across a variety of applications and files.
ChatGPT Work is powered by OpenAI’s most advanced artificial intelligence (AI) model, GPT-5.6, which can gather context from apps, files, and workflows to create finished documents, spreadsheets, presentations, reports, and websites, the company said in an announcement.
The company explained that ChatGPT Work can use plugins to connect with apps such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Drive, and Sharepoint, as well as email systems, calendars, CRM platforms, project trackers, and other tools.
Once connected, ChatGPT can gather context about tasks, retrieve information, create documents and materials, and execute and analyze drafts while adjusting them in the background of your work.

In OpenAI’s announcement, the company said ChatGPT Work allows users to continue working on a project even when they are not on their phone or computer by using scheduled tasks, for example, receiving new messages and turning them into updated documents or slides and sharing changes among team members.
ChatGPT Work is available on Pro, Enterprise, and Edu plans as of Thursday, and will roll out to Plus and Business plans in the coming days. Also available in the ChatGPT desktop app on all plans, including the free plan.

The announcement comes as OpenAI’s latest foray into agent AI tools following the launch and deep dive into Operator, which was subsequently integrated into the ChatGPT agent for individual users and the Workspace agent to automate enterprise workflows.
OpenAI is in the midst of intense competition from AI rivals like Anthropic, which released Claude Cowork, an agent tool that can autonomously plan and execute multi-step tasks.

Anthropic has added plugins to Claude Cowork that can automate tasks related to legal, sales, marketing, and data analysis. This triggered a sell-off in software and professional services stocks in the U.S. and Europe earlier this year on fears it could disrupt the data analytics industry.
OpenAI backer Microsoft also announced Copilot Cowork, which expands its agent AI offering following the Anthropic rollout.
