Open Gateway Leads the New Business Paradigm in the Mobile AI Era

AI For Business

[Shanghai, China, June 26, 2024] At the “Accelerating Open Gateways in the 5G Advanced and AI Era Summit” held at MWC Shanghai, industry players including telecom operators, communications platform-as-a-service (CPaaS) providers, and consulting firms discussed how open application programmable interfaces (APIs) can help reshape the telecom industry in the 5G era, and explore the latest 5G-A applications. At the summit, Dr. Philip Song, Chief Marketing Officer of Huawei Carrier Business Group, explained how open gateways will be crucial for telecom operators in their pursuit of experience-driven operations based on diverse 5G-A network capabilities in the mobile AI era, and shared Huawei's overall strategy and practice on open APIs.

The year 2024 will usher in a new era of mobile AI, empowered by the commercialization of 5G-A and the rapid advancement of AI. According to Dr. Song, major changes are looming in mobile terminals, content production, and interaction patterns. In the face of these changes, 5G-A networks are expected to have diverse capabilities, and this diversification will naturally lead carriers to choose experience-centric operations. By integrating AI, 5G-A networks can better meet this requirement. A communications infrastructure model is already in place to make 5G-A networks more intelligent and able to provide differentiated capabilities on demand.

The Open Gateway defines unified standards and charging modes, and a unified global ecosystem within an interoperable framework to enable experience-centric operations based on diverse network capabilities. It can leverage both carrier platforms and third-party operation platforms to monetize packages designed based on user layers, service levels, and scenario segments. The Open Gateway will be the new engine for 5G-A experience-centric operations and promote the creation of new business models.

Open gateways are developing rapidly, and Huawei has worked with carrier partners to share a number of open API applications. One example is the service booking API for toC and toB mobile live streaming. The service provides a guaranteed experience according to live streamers' individual requirements. For carriers, this is an opportunity to accelerate differentiated operations. Another feature favored by insurance companies is the New Calling API, which integrates HD video, interactive data, content sharing, and AR marking into loss assessment, shortening the process from two hours to just 10 minutes. This translates into significant cost savings for insurance companies and increased revenue for carriers.

As a channel partner of the GSMA Open Gateway, Huawei will continue to invest in the research and development of network APIs, specifically, exploring new services, accelerating the development of existing services such as Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), efficiently scheduling network resources, ensuring differentiated experiences, and improving O&M efficiency to achieve intelligent O&M. At the same time, Huawei will work with the CAMARA community to help operators around the world continuously plan and deploy new service APIs.

At the end of his speech, Dr. Song called on industry players around the world to strengthen cooperation and promote the commercialization of open network capabilities. “Huawei is determined to help carriers build 5G-A networks that can make the most of AI to build new businesses, experiences, and a more intelligent world.”

MWC Shanghai 2024 will be held in Shanghai, China from June 26 to June 28. During the event, Huawei will exhibit its latest products and solutions at Stands E10 and E50 in Hall N1 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC).

The commercialization of 5.5G is expected in 2024, and F5.5G, featuring gigabit optical networks, is already underway. The synergy of networks, cloud, and intelligence is diversifying user experiences and popularizing intelligent applications. Together with carriers, industry experts, and opinion leaders from around the world, we will delve into topics such as expanding 5G success in the 5.5G era, leveraging the potential for carriers to grow revenue, and accelerating toward an intelligent world.
