As technology leaders continue to discuss the potential impact artificial intelligence has on the job market, one CEO says the biggest risk of technology could be “deskills.”
In an interview with The Times of London, Arthur Mensch, CEO of Paris-based company Mistral AI, dismissed the idea that AI would significantly reduce white-collar jobs.
Speaking to the outlet at a Vivatech conference in Paris earlier this month, Mensch co-founded a leading open source language model developer alongside Guillaume Lample and Timothée Lacroix in April 2023.
“From a design perspective, if you confirm that you are keeping people positive, it's a risk that you can avoid from a design perspective,” he said.
“You want people to continue learning,” he continued. “Being able to integrate information and criticize information is a core component of learning.”
Mensch, a former Google Deepmind researcher, also responded to recent warnings that AI poses a threat to white-collar jobs, including Dario Amodei, CEO of humanity, who will replace half of the entry-level white-collar jobs within five years.
“I think it's a lot of exaggeration,” Mensch said.
Instead, Mensch said he thought AI would change the white-collar job. “We expect we have more relational tasks, as it's not something you can easily replace,” he said.
