Microsoft is previewing a new AI system called Copilot Tasks, designed to handle busy tasks in the background, the company announced Thursday. This feature uses your own cloud-based computer and browser to take the load off your device, allowing you to handle a variety of jobs, from scheduling appointments to creating study plans, while doing other things.
As Microsoft points out, you can use natural language to describe what you want from a CoPilot task and assign CoPilot tasks to complete recurring, scheduled, or one-time jobs. Copilot tasks provide a report when the work is completed.
Invoke copilot tasks to organize your subscriptions, cancel subscriptions you don’t use, and turn emails, attachments, and images in your inbox into slide decks. Other use cases include having an AI assistant draft urgent emails and replies, or planning a birthday party from venue to invitees. Microsoft says Tasks will ask for permission before performing “meaningful actions” such as making payments or sending messages. At this time, Copilot Tasks is only available for research preview with “small groups” of testers. You can join the waiting list for Copilot tasks from the Microsoft website.
