Driven by a traditional fourth-quarter accounting surge and an explosive new market for generative AI tools, Microsoft will be on track by the time it releases its next fourth-quarter numbers later this month, according to a report from AccelerationEconomy. Three months ago, during Microsoft’s third-quarter earnings release, CEO Satya Nadella said it was made possible by the fusion of the world’s most advanced AI models and the world’s most ubiquitous user interface, natural language. He praised the arrival of a “new era of computing”.
Microsoft CFO Amy Hood and CTO Kevin Scott emphasized that substantial customer demand is driving the rapid growth of Microsoft’s next-generation AI solutions, calling it the company’s fastest growth to date. We are positioning it as a $10 billion business.
During an AI discussion on June 10, Hood answered a question from a financial analyst about revenue sharing, highlighting that revenue comes from two sources. One is the tools and services that the customer uses to develop his AI applications leveraging the Azure OpenAI API and Azure infrastructure, and the other is the integration. Growth of Azure: Over the past four quarters, revenue growth from Azure and ‘Other cloud services’ has slowed, tapering off from 40% to 35%, then 31%, and finally 27%. However, a reversal is expected in the fourth quarter of the fiscal year, with Azure revenue projected to grow 28%. This growth is fueled by the strength of his AI services, which Hood mentioned.
Cloud Percentage of Total Revenue: About a year ago, cloud revenue accounted for 50% of Microsoft’s total revenue. In Q4, that percentage is expected to rise to 57%. Last quarter, cloud revenue accounted for 54% ($28.5 billion of total $52.9 billion), reflecting Microsoft’s commitment to integrating GenAI into all Microsoft cloud solutions.
