Canadian tech company BlackBerry Limited on Thursday announced two new cybersecurity hubs in India with facilities in Bengaluru and Noida.

Shishir Singh, executive vice president and CTO of BlackBerry Cybersecurity, said in an interview with TechCircle that BlackBerry is partnering with Cylance AI in India and Asia Pacific to provide global software and services teams with local access to prevent cyberattacks. In 2019, the company completed its acquisition of Cylance, a privately held artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity company to further enhance its security technology and intelligently connect, protect and build secure endpoints.

Cylance AI is BlackBerry’s next-generation cybersecurity software and the technology that pioneered the AI ​​cybersecurity industry. Now in its seventh generation, it boasts the industry’s largest malware database, trained on billions of diverse threat data sets over several years of real-world operations, Singh said.

Singh said the Noida facility currently has 50 people, but the company plans to add about 30 professional engineers to the location. BlackBerry’s cybersecurity hub in Bengaluru will grow from its current 20 to over 100 employees by the end of 2023, focusing on generative AI and machine learning (ML), data science and analytics, threat intelligence, networking, and unified endpoint management. “By expanding BlackBerry’s global software and services presence in India, we are strengthening our support for our customers and partners in APAC and Japan, while also attracting the next generation of cyber defenders who want to improve their AI and machine learning skills. He also said the India expansion plan will augment BlackBerry’s existing software and services teams based in Canada, the US and Europe. In addition to Cylance AI, the company’s leading cyber security experts include 24/7 cyber threat monitoring and mitigation, endpoint management to help protect and enable the digital workplace, and threat researchers to provide real-time intelligence. Regional access to security software and services will also be enhanced.

This follows BlackBerry’s April 2023 announcement that it would establish an Internet of Things (IoT) engineering center in Hyderabad to specialize in embedded software for the mission-critical IoT industry.
