Microsoft is going all-in on artificial intelligence by making the Windows operating system (OS) AI-ready with its new Copilot+ platform, powered by chips based on the ARM architecture. Microsoft calls Copilot+ PC the fastest and most intelligent Windows device, leveraging neural processing units (NPUs) on supported ARM chips to handle AI workloads.

While announcing new features and tools for Windows, Microsoft said that most of the apps people use have native Arm versions available. And for apps that are not designed to run on the ARM architecture, Microsoft has integrated a new “Prism” emulator within the operating system to make the apps compatible on Arm PCs. The company said that emulated apps on PCs with Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite chips will deliver twice the speed of previous generation Windows Arm devices with Windows 11 OS.

This is also the first time Microsoft has announced features specifically for Arm-based devices running the Windows platform. This is largely because his ARM-based Qualcomm X-series chips have a dedicated NPU that can perform the on-device AI operations needed for some of Microsoft's new features for Windows.

Users can also delete specific snapshots or adjust the range of the timeline.

The Recall feature utilizes a “Personal Semantic Index,” which Microsoft says is built and stored entirely on the device itself, ensuring user privacy. Recall is an opt-in feature and can be enabled/disabled from Windows Settings.

Co-create with AI

Microsoft is leveraging the NPU on Copilot+ PCs and a small language model (SLM) running on the device to enable Windows users to generate images and graphics using text prompts in Windows apps like Paint and Photos. I'll make it. These are some of Microsoft's AI-powered Image Creator features.

The feature integrated into Paint is called “Cocreator,” which allows users to adjust, edit, and refine their work with text prompts. In the Photos app, the feature is called Image Restyle, and the company says it allows users to “reimagine their personal photos with new styles that combine image generation and photo editing.” It includes preset styles such as Cyberpunk and Claymation, and users can also create entirely new styles using generative AI.

Microsoft said it has partnered with select developers to bring support for a number of creative apps, including Adobe, to its ARM-based platform. Adobe apps like Photoshop, Lightroom, and Express will be supported on Copilot+ PC right away, with more apps like Illustrator and Premiere Pro coming later.

Other creative apps supported on the new platform include DaVinci Resolve Studio, CapCut, Cephable, LiquidText, and djay Pro.

Live captioning and real-time translation

By leveraging a dedicated NPU and on-device AI, Copilot+ for Windows on PC includes live captioning that translates over 40 languages ​​into English in real-time for streaming content such as live video calls, recordings, and even videos. It's loaded with features.
