Microsoft's video editor Clipchamp is trying to get powerful features for cropping videos. Soon, the app will be able to edit transcripts to support cropping videos.
Clipchamp is a built-in video editor for Windows 11. There is also a version of Clipchamp for the web and iOS. At this time, you cannot use Clipchamp on Android devices.
Microsoft bought Clipchamp in 2021 and steadily expanded its app feature set. It is designed to be a basic video editor rather than a competitor for Adobe Premiere Pro or more powerful tools.
The working version of Clipchamp comes with a Select Microsoft 365 Business and Education License. It supports branded video templates, has a variety of AI features, allowing you to record your screen and webcam to create presentations.
Clipchamp already supports the generation of AI transcripts for in-video interaction. However, with a new feature that ships this month, you can edit the text in your transcript and remove the corresponding portion of the video.
This feature allows you to crop video segments without dealing with the timeline, lower the learning curve for video editing, and streamline the process of creating dialog-centric videos.
Microsoft's Anastasia Passaris announced the feature in a post on the Tech Community and outlined how to use it.
- Open a new or existing video project with Clipchamp containing spoken language.
- Select Transcripts Tabs from the panel on the right of the editor.
- Select Generates transcripts Start the transcription process.
- Highlight the text in the transcript you want to delete, then select it erase. This will remove that part of the video from the timeline.
The caption tab is the Clipchamp[トランスクリプト]It has been replaced by tabs. Caption-related features are still in the app, but I currently live in a different section.
The AI-generated transcripts contain timestamps that allow you to easily jump to different parts of the video. New features allow you to remove out-of-topic dialogs and crop the video accordingly.
Transcript-based editing will be deployed in June 2025 with Clipchamp for work users.
Quick and easy video editing

Transcripts and captions are important as they make content more accessible. They can also help retain as they can hear the presenter speak while people are reading the same information.
In the age of social media, having a caption is useful. Because people can watch your content while your content is still calm.
I worked for television, and in many cases I reuse web content. Transcription of a video used to take age. It was important, so it took quite a while to transfer it by hand.
Clipchamp's AI-generated transcription saves a considerable amount of time, and the ability to use these transcriptions to crop videos is a natural extension of the functionality.
I reviewed and re-referenced Clipchamp since it was purchased by Microsoft. It's a solid video editor with many features, focusing on productivity. If your business or organization already has a license that includes Clipchamp for work, I recommend trying out content such as walkthroughs, onboarding videos, presentations and more in the app.
Clipchamp also comes in a personal version. This is used to create highlight reels for American soccer teams. That version has a slightly different feature set, but it's easy to use.
