Mick Jagger has insisted that creators are free to experiment with artificial intelligence (AI) in their music as long as it sounds “original”.
In an interview with signboardthe Rolling Stones frontman was asked for his views on the rise of controversial technology.
“Of course I don’t want the vocals or the instruments to be imitated by AI, and I don’t want the band to be imitated. I don’t want to just put out something that sounds exactly like the Rolling Stones. I think that’s clearly wrong,” he said.
“If someone wants to make music with AI, go ahead, but it has to be original. It has to have their own input and their own thoughts,” Mick added.
of satisfaction The rocker went on to stress that he has nothing against people using AI to make music in the very “style” of the Rolling Stones.
“If you were a creative person, you wouldn’t do that,” the 82-year-old insisted.
And Jagger’s bandmate Keith Richards shared a similar sentiment, explaining that authenticity is always central when creating original art.
“My idea is that I want to hear the original. Music can do much better than trying to copy itself. After all, it’s a very simple thing – it’s not Beethoven or Bach, and I have no doubt that AI can do it, but so what? We need new input. We don’t want more and more copying and synthesis. At least that’s my view. There’s certainly enough originality without copying nursery rhymes.
