Meta hires from DeepMind and Scale AI to build a Superintelligence team

AI For Business

According to LinkedIn data reviewed by Business Insider, Meta has been heavily adopted by Google's AI division DeepMind for the new Superintelligence team, bringing in at least 10 unreported researchers since July.

Meta's Deepmind Hire includes researchers who worked on Google's most powerful AI models, as well as even researchers who help Google make money with International Mathematics Olympiad.

Meta also employs large employment from scale AI for its safety and evaluation team. The startup researchers have labelled at least six of their data, and in recent weeks, they announced their departure for META. In June, Meta bought almost half of the $14 billion scale AI and tapped CEO Alexandr Wang to lead a close effort.

Meta's recruitment campaign has created eye-opening offers and headlines for Openai's poaching staff as it competes with other major high-tech companies in AI talent racing. The strong presence of DeepMind at Meta Superintelligence Labs indicates that Google is also a major AI research powerhouse.

Meta also invests and is employed in Scale's research division. This department has field expertise to improve chatbots and prevent them from generating toxic or harmful content.

“We run one of the most important research teams in AI. We are growing it. The movement of a small number of employees as part of the transaction is a clear dynamic with the other companies mentioned in this story,” said Joe Osborne, a spokesman for AI, in a statement.

Meta declined to comment and Google did not respond to requests for comment. BI also contacted researchers hired by Google and Scale AI.

Meta targets DeepMind

One of Meta's most notable adoptions is Yuanzhong Xu, a veteran Google researcher who has contributed to some of the search giant's most prominent AI initiatives.

Xu, who previously held a senior engineering role at Google Deepmind, helped develop Lamda, the company's family of conversational AI models. Xu's work also helped to develop Gemini.

According to Xu's LinkedIn profile, he currently works for “TBD” at Meta. This is a reference to a unit within Meta Superintelligence Labs that is dedicated to training the company's most advanced AI models.

Meta also hired Tong He. Google believed that Google helped achieve gold-medal-level performance at the International Mathematics Olympiad in July. Meta hired three other deep researchers behind the victory.

Another former deep researcher hired by Meta in July, Mingyang Zhang has been working to help large-scale linguistic models get information effectively.

Meta also hired Xinyun Chen, a former in-depth researcher whose expertise is concentrated in AI systems capable of autonomous code generation and logical reasoning.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai has previously dismissed the effects of Silicon Valley's raging talent war, saying its retention remains “healthy.”

Meta hires from Scale AI

Scale AI has a seal (safety, assessment, and alignment lab) team that oversees important areas of AI and does not spit out any false information or instructions to build bombs to ensure that chatbots are tailored to human values. The evaluation focuses on determining the performance of AI models and how to improve it.

From the Scale Seal, Meta recruited Ziwen Han and Nathaniel Lee. He was both co-authored on the test of AI models called Humanity's Last Examination. This test is intended to be the most difficult test that humans can take AI.

Other recent meta adoptions from the scale include Alexander Fabry, Felix Binder, Chen Sin, and Lind Sin. Many of them currently work at Meta Superintelligence Labs on safety and assessment-related issues.

These are not the first meta employment from scale. According to her LinkedIn, days after Meta announced its super intelligence team, Seal's first leader Summer Yue joined the company as part of an investment in Meta's size. She currently leads the alignment group at MSL.

Julian Michael, who led Seal after Yue, jumped into the meta almost at the same time.
