US technology giant Meta has announced that its latest Ray-Ban smart glasses will be equipped with generative artificial intelligence (gen AI) capabilities.
In addition to Meta AI support, the company announced hands-free video calling capabilities and new frame options.
Here's how Meta's AI-powered features work with Ray-Ban smart glasses.
Meta AI with vision: Earlier this week, the company began testing MetaAI on its WhatsApp and Instagram apps in wider regions of the world, including India. We are now bringing Gen AI technology to our latest Ray-Ban smart glasses.
The new generation AI chatbot runs on Llama 2 (Large Language Model Meta AI 2) and can understand complex user queries and respond with easy-to-understand real-time information.
Owners can call the chatbot with the launch phrase “Hey Meta” and ask what it's showing. Glasses provide helpful answers and suggestions.
For example, let's say a tourist is walking down the street and is intrigued by a landmark in front of him. All he has to do is say, “Hey Meta,” what am I looking at? Built-in he analyzes the footage through 12MP HD camera and gets the necessary information about the location.
Please note that Ray-Ban smart glasses must be paired with the included mobile phone for internet connectivity. The answers are then streamed through open-ear speakers in the frame near your ears.

Meta AI chatbot can instantly provide smart answers and information to users for all voice-based queries.
Also, in another example, if a user is in a French restaurant and the menu is in French, the user can look at it and ask Meta AI to translate it into English. The latter translates the English menu in real time right in front of your eyes.
Hands-free video calling: The new Meta Ray-Ban glasses receive a new update that allows for the integration of WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger apps. The update will also allow owners to make video calls.

Key features of Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses.
This will come in handy when shopping for groceries. If a person is in a store and wants to buy milk, but forgets to ask his partner what brand or type of tomato ketchup to buy, the owner of the device uses Ray-Ban glasses, and the person uses Ray-Ban glasses. You can instantly make video calls using your glasses. The shelves are clearly visible from the other side, helping your partner get the right product. This hands-free communication is more natural and much better than pointing your phone at a shelf and talking with the speaker on.

Hands-free video calling will also soon be enabled on Ray-Ban smart glasses.
New frame styles: Meta provides new low bridge options for Headliner frames. Designed for people who tend to have their glasses slip off their nose or sit too low on their face.
A new limited edition frame is also available. Meta, in collaboration with Ray-Ban and Scuderia Ferrari, has launched a new Scuderia Limited Edition with its trademark red and yellow colours.

The company plans to offer more than 100 custom frame and lens combinations.
Currently, Ray-Ban (2nd generation) is sold in 15 countries including the United States, Canada, Australia, and throughout Europe.
Prices for the latest Ray-Bans (2nd generation) start from $299 (approximately Rs. 24,927).
