Mastercard We are using new tools for developers, new tools aimed at deeper collaboration across the global technology and finance ecosystem to advance AI-powered payments. These efforts are laying the foundation for a smarter, safer shopping experience using artificial intelligence and intelligent agents, as AI sets the standards for how AI handles payments safely and confidently.
Building the future of AI shopping
MasterCard works with AI and Commerce leaders, including Stripe, Google and Ant International's Antom, to provide secure agent transactions with global access to digital merchants and platforms. By the holiday season, all US Mastercard Card holders will be enabled for the Mastercard Agent Pay program, followed by a global rollout soon after. Prior to this, Citi and US bank Mastercard holders will be the first to experience AI-enabled shopping as agent commerce providers and enablers such as agent commerce providers, PAYOS, solidly, basic theory, and other industry players.
New tools to accelerate adoption
Separately, MasterCard is running to help developers and businesses get started right away.
- Agent Toolkit: Available to MasterCard developers, this toolkit allows AI assistants and agent tools to seamlessly access and interpret MasterCard's API documents using machine-readable content structured through a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. It supports integration with platforms such as Claude, Cursor, and Github Copilot. This makes the MasterCard API more discoverable and easier to integrate into agent workflows. MCP availability complements the Agent2Agent protocol.
- Agent Sign Up: An easy way to identify agents using the Agent Toolkit and access AI-enabled MasterCard products and services.
- Insight Tokens: A secure and governed way for agents to access and apply the insights permitted from MasterCard. As agent commerce matures, Insight Tokens can receive more personalized and useful experiences and information from consumers with consent. Insight Tokens is based on MasterCard technology already supported by B2B partners like SAP Concur.
- Agent Consulting Services:Professional support to help publishers, acquirers, merchants and AI enablers design, run and run intelligent shopping experiences faster.
Set industry standards for the future of payments
MasterCard leverages the expertise of creating global, interoperable digital payment standards (including contactless and tokenization) to define how payments work in an agent environment. Together with the FIDO Alliance and its payment working group, MasterCard and other industry leaders are developing verifiable qualification standards for payments that check payment details such as amounts, merchants, products and more. This will help everyone involved in the transaction develop the confidence that they have been approved by shoppers, paving the way for a safer, seamless and reliable foundation for agent payments.
Lay the foundation for an agent experience
“AI-powered payments are not just trends, they are transformational. Payments must be specific to the agent experience. We are building an infrastructure that allows consumers and developers to enable AI agents to act with trust, transparency and accuracy.”
– Craig Vosberg, Chief Service Officer of Mastercard
“We will work with partners across the ecosystem to build standards and tools that define agent commerce. We are committed to enabling a reliable environment for AI-powered payments to expand globally.”
– Jorn Lambert, Chief Product Officer of MasterCard
MasterCard's infrastructure and standards are designed to support today's trustworthy real-world agent transactions, ready to expand as more people and businesses adopt them.
