Once upon a time, back in 2024, a promising new app launched. It was called Shine and a way of sharing photos with a group of people who attended the same event.

According to a wired report based on internal email, Mayer's startup, called Sunshine, is shutting down. Sunshine's assets will be transferred along with current employees to a new company owned by Mayer, known as Dazzle.
Sunshine seemed troubled. Just a few days after Shine's announcement, its co-founder, Enrique Munoz Torres, left the company (not a great sign). Shortly afterwards, Casey Newton and Zoe Schiffer for platformers saw the small company for a long time. There, employees reported that they were unhappy with the work culture and Mayer's wandering vision.
The app has evolved as Meyer tested it with friends and family on holidays and parties, employees said. The product changes were “explicitly about her social life,” one employee said. In January, Mayer and her family went on a ski vacation in Wyoming. Mayer's friend took several selfies on the trip – and was embarrassed when the photos were automatically uploaded to Shine's shared album, which Mayer created. When Mayer returned to the office, she told employees that she should remove the photo from the shared album, where the photo she took with the front camera had only one face in it.
Personally, I love smarter, AI-enabled contact managers and a better way to solve puzzles that hug loose photos. These are the real issues in my life! Certainly I love AI personal assistants (what does that actually make for glare).
In a statement to Business Insider, a Dazzle spokesman said: As Sunshine's biggest investor, shareholder and CEO, Marissa is proud of what the team has built and looks forward to bringing that momentum into new opportunities for Dazzle.
However, AI Personal Assistant has some of the same issues that online invites, and photosharing products from Shine face. Many services already do that, and the most popular version is already burned into your phone. A tough field! But good fortune to everyone involved!
