Macron earlier confirmed he would meet with Musk on Friday and spoke of raising the level of AI training to create several centers of excellence.
He took the stage this week with the founders of several French startups, including Mistral AI, which announced it had raised a record €105 million for a French AI company.
Macron also encouraged the European Union to pass AI regulations as soon as possible, but cautioned against regulations that do not involve investment.
“The worst-case scenario would be for Europe to start by creating regulations while investing far less than the US or China,” he said.
“This scenario is possible, but not one I endorse.”
The EU AI law has been debated in the EU legislative process since 2021 and is unlikely to come into force for several years.
