Recently I was given the opportunity to go see a Swedish film at the AMC theatre near me. This movie Look at the skywas completely filmed in Sweden and released in 2022 under a completely different name. UFO Sweden. However, the screening was for a new edition of the film, a kind of re-release featuring “immersive AI dubbing.” Simply put, the film is exactly the same. Except for the newly filmed prologue scenes. But instead of the actors speaking native Swedish, they instead speak English with Swedish accents. Next, using software created by the perfect AI, I re-adjusted all my lip flaps and facial movements using artificial intelligence and computer-generated imaging to match the new dubs of the film. I was hoping to get into this Look at the sky Feels like that old VHS tape Godzilla 2000 I watched it as a child when my voice was “matched” but clearly dubbed, but the representation never quite matched the vocal performance. To my surprise, it wasn't.
The performance felt very natural as the opening scene unfolded. I stopped thinking about the concept of dubbing and began to embrace films for films, which are Swedish films about UFO Hunters. I stopped looking for strange AI tampering and creepy valley faces and relaxed in the movie. This is a long preamble to this review, but I think it's important to emphasize how seamless the dubbing is. Simply put, this didn't elevate the film for me. If I were to see the film in its original form, I would even say that my opinions on the story, the characters, the cinematography, and the pacing are more or less the same. I think that means the perfect AI mission to make international films easier to digest for Western English-speaking viewers. I'll break this down more when I'm doing a review, but for those who want to know this first, yes, it works and is pretty effective.
The film follows Dennis (Endahl Tohhaug), a young trouble-inducing teenager who is obsessed with the sudden disappearance of his UFO hunting father. Believing he was accused of aliens, Dennis reaches out to his father's old crew, UFO Sweden, a coalition of Swedish skeptics and scientists, hoping to cause or link to UFOs to unexplained phenomena in the Swedish countryside. The nonconforming group, led by Lennart Svah (Jesper Barkselius), is confident by Denise that recent anomalies in local weather patterns have major similarities to previous UFO sightings. Therefore, the teams must be gathered to uncover the truth, pursued by both the local government and the Swedish government.
Soon, this film evokes classic UFO movies like The third kind of close encounterbut a Stranger Things The lens is adorable goofy with the characters, determining the teenager, and the score is primarily composed of electronic synths. The film has moments of intense emotion, drama and suspense, with light-hearted banter and jokes, between which it is light and playful. Look at the sky Through adaptable set designs, likable characters and simply inspiring concepts wrapped in fun cinema experiences, I want it to be a successful 80s adventure. There are real stunts in this film. The actor is crashing while driving an actual car. This is a low bar that even the MCU can sometimes overcome. Besides what the film felt, I don't know how else to say this Goonya movie I recently revisited. For those who don't realize Goonyvery ok in my opinion, but very ok in my opinion, very ok in my opinion, very ok because of how the viewing experience felt as a child through visuals, performance and scores, but very ok in my opinion, but still retains a special place in my brain. Look at the sky It hurts the same itch. It's not a very mindful and inspiring investigation of some deep themes. The film is simply an hour and 55 minutes of family adventure.
This film certainly could be seen to be caused next to zero splash, not just because of the film itself, but because the film is in a different language, if released in the US. There is an extreme layer of people who can't watch the film in other languages, especially when it's dubbed by chance in English. When I ask fans of Japanese anime and Korean melodramas, dubs are always worse than subtitle versions. However, with this new AI dubbing, Look at the sky You can clear this layer and simply become a Swedish family UFO adventure film. I could scream with both Shoutout Victor Dannel and Jesper Barklius, one of the director and one of the film's lead actors, about asking if something was lost in translations from Swedish and English. Both agreed that this process was involved through re-recording every line of dialogue, but now in English it felt more like a creative adaptation than a simple dub. Barkselius spoke about the ability to reevaluate certain scenes in the film. Here, we can now add new layers of emotions and depth through this new dub. He even said he enjoyed the film in English more than Swedish. Additionally, Dannel felt safe in redubbing the film, allowing him to maintain creative control over the film, even in a completely different language.
He also attended a screening for SAG-AFTRA, which supported this experiment. Representatives from SAG-AFTRA said that the union was on board this type of “controlled experiment” rather than the wildcard company throwing things away without fear of consequences. They also praised the process for how the creative team can become part of the process, if needed. in Look at the sky” Case, all actors have returned all of the dialogue to Rerecord, providing portrait consent, allowing the perfect AI to recreate the faces to fit the new dub. Back to the film, the performance was really very appealing. This is due to the actor's authentic Swedish accent. Motivational monologues and punchlines come directly from the performers and you can feel it. Even actors who struggled to speak English fluently, like Håkan Ehn, who played Gunnar, were not lost or misunderstood in my screening. If anything, he was able to offer such a performance if the film was shot in full English, so much was obtained through dub.
One of the biggest dramas coming out of the 97th Academy Awards season was the use of AI by the actor Adrian Brody, the winner of the leading role. A brutal person. The creative team uses AI to enhance the Brody accent, making it sound more “real” Hungarian. Instead of casting actors who could provide a more accurate performance, they used AI and won an Oscar. where Look at the sky It's different from A brutal person It's in how they use their tools. Bruatlist Use AI as a shortcut to keep previous Oscar winners in the cast. Look at the sky Working with performers, I created a completely new version of the film. I'm hesitant to call this revolution, but it's certainly one of the few examples of filmmakers and distributors who use AI as a tool to create more accessible art.
Look at the sky It may not be the best movie I've seen in 2025, but that's definitely what I'm thinking for the rest of the year. It's both fun plots, characters, performances and innovative use of tools to enhance filmmaking rather than cutting corners. I hope this film serves as an example of how we should embrace technological advances in the arts.
3/5, have fun, please watch Look at the skyDubbed or undercoat with friends and family!
