More than a third of Belgian companies use artificial intelligence, making Belgium one of the leading countries in Europe. Individuals are also rapidly adopting AI tools, according to the latest Belgian Digital Economy Overview.
In 2025, 34.54 percent of Belgian companies were using at least one AI technology, compared to 24.71 percent in 2024. Belgium comfortably beats the European average of 19.95 percent and currently ranks in the top five in Europe for companies’ use of AI, according to the Ministry of Economy.
The most common applications are related to text analysis, written or audio content creation, machine learning, and workflow automation. AI is primarily used to organize administrative and administrative processes, accounting and finance, marketing and sales.
However, the usage status of AI seems to vary greatly depending on the size of the company. More than 76% of large enterprises already use these technologies, compared to more than 28% of small and medium-sized enterprises.
Last year, 33.53% of Belgian individuals used generative AI tools for personal purposes. This is significantly higher than the European average of 25.09%.
“Belgians are particularly digitally active,” said Digitalization Minister Vanessa Mats. “We must build on this momentum with an ambitious and coherent strategy to ensure that Belgium not only uses AI, but also understands it, masters it and contributes to its further development. This requires strengthening expertise within its borders, supporting talent, improving access to European technological capabilities and building a framework of trust.”
But Matz also stressed that AI development must occur within “a clear, protective and inclusive framework that guarantees respect for privacy, prevents bias and avoids digital transitions that will further exacerbate inequalities.”
