SINGAPORE: Producing higher-quality produce at cheaper prices and with twice the yields. That's what Singapore's newest mushroom farm is hoping to achieve with the help of automation and artificial intelligence.

The vertical farm hopes to meet one-third of local consumer demand for white button mushrooms, aiming to price them at about S$7.50 per kg or even lower – about half the current market price.

This farm is Fink Biotech Mushrooms, It will be built on a site the size of three football fields at Sungei Tengah Close.

that The plan is to start growing the first mushrooms next year.

“The mushroom industry has developed to such a scale that in China and Japan, for example, at least 70 percent of mushrooms are grown in factories, which is why we want to replicate this success in other markets,” said Bao Shengjie, president of Fink Biotech Mushroom.

The Shanghai-based company, which calls itself the world's largest manufacturer of shimeji, has been cultivating the mushrooms for decades and also exports its production to Singapore.

Fink operates four facilities in China that use big data, AI, and automation to produce about 260 tons of mushrooms every day, or the weight of 65 elephants.

This will be the first time that similar technology is introduced in Singapore.
