How an autonomous surgical robot was trained using real surgical videos
Unlike previous surgical robots that followed stiff, pre-programmed instructions, a new system named Surgical Robot Trans Hierarchy (SRT-H) was trained using hours of surgical video. Researchers at Johns Hopkins University provided robot visual data and captions explaining each step in the procedure. This approach allowed SRT-H to learn the arrangement and nuances of gallbladder surgery, including duct and artery identification, clip placement, and precise cuts.
