LG Electronics strengthens AI collaboration with Qualcomm

LG Electronics CEO Cho Ju-wan is scheduled to meet with Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon on July 11 to discuss the company's on-device AI business.


LG Electronics and Qualcomm are strengthening their cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). LG Electronics has had a collaborative relationship with Qualcomm since its mobile business days.


According to a source in the home appliance industry on the 10th, LG Electronics CEO Cho Ju-wan is scheduled to meet with Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon on the 11th. Amon is scheduled to visit the LG Twin Towers in Yeouido, Seoul on the 11th to discuss AI cooperation.


In particular, the on-device AI business is likely to be discussed at the meeting. LG Electronics recently established a new organization for on-device AI strategy under the Chief Technology Officer (CTO).


LG Electronics and Qualcomm have collaborated on electronics and audio products. In 2022, LG Electronics' tablet PCs were equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 680 application processor (AP). Qualcomm's aptX Adaptive acoustic solution was also applied to LG Electronics' Tone Free wireless earphones.


In its automotive electronics business, Qualcomm maintains a close relationship with LG Electronics' VS division, supplying it with chips for in-vehicle telematics and infotainment.


According to industry sources, Ah Mon is scheduled to meet with the heads of LG Electronics and other South Korean companies. Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong met with Ah Mon during a visit to the United States in June. The two agreed to cooperate on next-generation semiconductors such as AI chips.
