Marks and Lemoyne disagree on whether AI can perceive
Today’s featured video from the 2022 COSM conference features a prominent panel of artificial intelligence (AI) experts such as Blake Lemoine and Robert J. Marks. They discuss what artificial intelligence means, what the future holds for its applications (both positive and negative), and how far AI can go in terms of mimicking and even surpassing human capabilities. . Lemoine is best known for his claims on AI’s ‘feeling’ and for his work on the large scale language model system ‘LaMDA’ at Google. Marks, on the other hand, appreciates Lemoyne’s view, but insists that creativity is a uniquely human ability and that machines will never acquire consciousness.
