marrakech – The Nexus AI Factory project was officially announced today on the sidelines of GITEX Africa Morocco 2026, marking an important milestone in Morocco’s ambitions to become a regional hub for artificial intelligence and advanced digital infrastructure.
Nexus Core Systems, in collaboration with international partners, has selected the suburbs of Casablanca to build a next-generation data center dedicated to artificial intelligence. This is a massive $1.2 billion investment that highlights Morocco’s growing technological ambitions.
This project highlights Morocco’s growing role in advanced digital infrastructure. The data center is designed to achieve a target capacity of 500 megawatts and will run entirely on renewable energy, with TAQA Morocco providing a clean power supply.
A sovereign, unified AI ecosystem
Nexus Core Systems has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Digital Migration and Administrative Reform, the Ministry of Investment, Integration and Evaluation of Public Policy, and the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development to operationalize the first phase of the “Nexus AI Factory Platform”.
The project will introduce a sovereign, integrated infrastructure designed to support Morocco’s next phase of digital growth.
It combines a high performance computing (HPC) data center, a center of excellence dedicated to services and skills transfer, and an innovation hub aimed at fostering advanced AI solutions.
By combining these components, the aim is to create a full-stack ecosystem that can support both domestic demand and international operations.
The agreement was signed in the presence of the Minister’s Representative for Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, Mr. Amal El Farah Segurchini, and the US Ambassador to Morocco, Duke Boukan III, and highlighted the strategic link between Morocco’s national digital agenda and international technology partnerships.

“Yesterday, we witnessed something historic at GITEX Africa 2026. Morocco signed a groundbreaking agreement to build the Nexus AI Factory, the first sovereign AI infrastructure platform of its kind in Africa,” he wrote.
“With an initial investment of $1.2 billion and a planned capacity of 500 megawatts, the project leverages Nvidia’s U.S. technology and is designed to position Morocco as an AI gateway to Africa, Europe, and the rest of the world.”
Expanding investments and strengthening Morocco’s global AI role
Nexus Core Systems was represented by CEO Jaap Zuiderveld and Chairman Christopher Yoshida.
The project will be supported by an initial investment of 12 billion Moroccan dirhams and will be rolled out in two structured phases until 2027.
The first phase, located in Naoussa, will mobilize 5 billion Moroccan dirhams to bring into operation 16 MW of capacity and create 50 direct jobs to mark the start of operation of the platform.
The second phase, supported by an additional 7 billion Moroccan Dirham investment, will expand capacity by 20 MW at the northern site, taking the total capacity to 36 MW and creating a total of 125 direct jobs by the end of 2027.
At the national level, Minister Amal El Farah Segrushni highlighted the structural impact of this initiative, noting that the launch of the Nexus AI Factory Platform will contribute to strengthening Morocco’s digital infrastructure while strengthening its capabilities in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.
From an industry perspective, Nexus Core Systems sees Morocco as a strategic location for its global operations.
CEO Jaap Zuiderveld highlighted the country’s competitive advantages, pointing to political stability, forward-looking leadership and a growing technology talent pool.
He emphasized that this project is not just about infrastructure development, but also positions Morocco as a center of excellence for managing international AI-driven operations.
Through this agreement, both the Ministry of Investment and AMDIE reaffirm their commitment to attracting high-value and productive investments while strengthening Morocco’s attractiveness as a destination for global technology companies.
The Nexus AI Factory platform fits into a broader national strategy aimed at building a competitive digital economy and fostering innovation-led growth.
