vientiane – The government has signed two agreements with UAE companies that pave the way for the creation of the ASEAN Digital and Artificial Intelligence Center to improve cybersecurity and support safer online businesses and national services.
A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Lao government and UAE partners, reflecting growing cooperation in technology and digital advancement.
Deputy Prime Minister Saliumsai Kommasit attended the 2026 World Government Summit in the United Arab Emirates last week and witnessed the signing of the agreement.
The first agreement, which approves cooperation in the creation of the ASEAN Digital and Artificial Intelligence Center, was signed between the Ministry of Technology and Communications and Menas Capital LLC.
The center is expected to support innovation and the use of artificial intelligence, while helping Laos strengthen the technical skills of its workforce and keep pace with regional and global digital trends.
The second agreement is a strategic memorandum of understanding on cybersecurity and digital financial ecosystem. This was signed between the Ministry of Finance and Kaspersky Middle East Group.
The agreement aims to strengthen cybersecurity systems and support the secure development of digital financial services as online transactions and digital platforms become more widely used in Laos.
The government said the agreement will provide a strong foundation for Laos to respond to rapid global change and implement modern digital systems.
Officials said the partnership with both companies will help create a safer environment for commerce and strengthen modern national administration, including the delivery of public services.
The agreement is expected to strengthen the skills of talent working in digital technology, cybersecurity and related fields.

The government also explained that the signing is a major step in strengthening ties between Laos and the United Arab Emirates, especially in digital development and security.
The signing of this agreement is one of several events commemorating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Laos and the United Arab Emirates in 2026.
