A 20-year-old hairdresser and make-up artist has died by suicide in Uttar Pradesh. After four people filmed a video accusing them of repeated harassment and intimidation, saying they had “ruined” her life, her husband claimed the harassment included AI-generated videos used to blackmail her.
Komal Mishra, who lived with her husband Saurabh Dwivedi in UP’s Etawah district, sent him a video shortly before taking the radical step. In the recording, she names Rubina Khan, Sabina Khan, Abhishek Singh and Ritesh Roy and holds them responsible for her death.
“These four people are the reason I hang myself… They ruined my family. If I die, they should get a life sentence,” Komal said in the video.
She also said she was under extreme mental stress as the defendant threatened to reveal details of her pre-marital life to her husband and in-laws.
Her husband said the harassment also included AI-generated videos and photos, which were used to blackmail her.
“My husband is a very kind person. He loves me very much… He should not be blamed for my death,” Komal said in the video, adding that she was the only one who made the decision.
Saurabh, who works as a clerk at the Balpura block office, said after receiving the video, he rushed Komal to the hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.
The suspect told police that Komal works as a make-up artist, hairdresser and event organizer and had recently returned from Jaipur. She said some of her acquaintances were harassing and threatening her with AI-generated videos and morphed photos, causing her immense mental suffering.
Komal and Saurabh got married for love about three and a half years ago and have two young children.
Police said they have recovered several videos from Komal’s mobile phone and are verifying the claims made in the recordings.
“Videos recovered from the deceased’s mobile phone are being examined and further legal action will be taken based on the evidence collected during the investigation,” police said.
The body has been sent for post-mortem and further investigation is underway.
