According to a PTI report, the state General Education Department’s technical arm, Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE), has launched a large-scale artificial intelligence literacy promotion drive among adults.
The initiative is named ‘Sarvam AI Mayam’, which means AI is everywhere, and is described by official sources as the largest artificial intelligence awareness program of its kind in the country. The campaign was officially announced on Sunday, February 15th.
Under the program, students from Little KITEs IT club will provide AI training to 600,000 parents across the government school network in Kerala, an official statement said. The activity is scheduled to run until June 30, 2026 and will be carried out across 2,200 Little KITE units, with each unit expected to train an average of 300 parents.
The two-hour training module is designed to equally emphasize both the opportunities and risks associated with artificial intelligence. K. Anvar Sadas, CEO of KITE, said the initiative will begin with a brief introduction to machine learning, the core technology that enables machines to process data and make decisions in a human-like way.
To demonstrate the creative capabilities of AI, parents are shown an animated video that brings to life a classic painting by Raja Ravi Varma. Sudduth explained that this session will focus on practical applications of AI in everyday life, especially through smartphones.
Parents are trained to use AI-powered tools to identify birds and plants, and translate signage in other languages, such as Tamil, into Malayalam in real-time. The program also offers hands-on experiences such as creating poems with an AI assistant, planning an itinerary, and creating recipes based on ingredients you have at home.
Additionally, this module will show you how to use AI for photo restoration to preserve and enhance old family photos.
In addition to these practical applications, the curriculum focuses on the potential risks of the digital environment. This training includes technology to identify AI-generated deepfake videos, manipulated images, and cloned audio, so parents can take steps to protect themselves from falling victim to scams. It also aims to build resilience against emotional misinformation and fake news on social media, while highlighting the importance of responsible internet behavior.
Officials said the most important objective of Sarvam AI Mayam is to enable students to take the lead in educating their own families and ensure that in the age of AI, all citizens are equipped with the ability to discern reality from deception.
