Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 15 (PTI) Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE), the technical arm of the state general education department, has launched a large-scale artificial intelligence literacy promotion drive targeting the adult population.
The initiative, titled ‘Sarvam AI Mayam’ (AI is everywhere), is considered to be the largest artificial intelligence awareness program undertaken in the country, official officials said here on Sunday.
Under the initiative, students from Little KITEs IT Club will provide AI training to 600,000 parents through public schools in the state, an official statement said.
The program is scheduled to run until June 30, 2026, and is being implemented in 2,200 Little KITE units, with each unit training an average of 300 parents.
The two-hour training module is designed to give equal importance to both the opportunities and risks associated with AI.
According to K Anvar Sadath, CEO of KITE, the initiative will begin with a brief introduction to machine learning, the core technology that enables machines to process data and make decisions like humans.
To illustrate the creative power of AI, parents are shown a video of a classic painting by Raja Ravi Varma brought to life through animation.
He explained that this session will focus on the practical application of AI in daily life through smartphones.
“Parents are trained to use AI-powered tools to identify birds and plants, and translate signboards in other languages such as Tamil into Malayalam in real-time.”
The training also provides hands-on experience using the AI assistant to write poems, plan travel itineraries, and generate recipes from ingredients found at home.
Additionally, this module will show you how to use AI for photo restoration to preserve and enhance old family photos.
In addition to these practical benefits, the project raises important warnings about the potential dangers of the digital environment, officials added.
The curriculum includes specific techniques for identifying AI-generated deepfake videos, fake images, and cloned voices, giving parents the necessary precautions to avoid falling for such scams.
It also aims to build resilience against emotional misinformation and “fake news” on social media, while highlighting the importance of internet etiquette.
Parents will also be introduced to Samagra Plus Learning Room, an AI-based educational platform developed by KITE to support children’s learning.
The initiative will serve as a follow-up to successful cybersecurity training provided to 400,000 parents in 2023-2024, the statement said.
Sudduth noted that the training will incorporate the latest security standards, including the IT Intermediaries Amendment Regulations 2026, which are scheduled to come into effect on February 20, 2026.
The ultimate goal of ‘Sarvam AI Mayam’ is to ensure that every citizen acquires the skills to distinguish between reality and deception in the age of AI, and for students to take the lead in the education of their own families, the official added.
