The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) has filed a complaint with the Election Commission (EC) alleging that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is circulating a “malicious” AI-generated deepfake video targeting candidates in the Haripad assembly constituency, alleging this is a serious attempt to sour the election atmosphere ahead of the Kerala Assembly polls.
In a complaint filed by UDF election committee chairman Anil B. Kalasil, the front alleged that the BJP’s election campaign machinery is widely disseminating fake videos through social media platforms such as WhatsApp and Facebook. According to the complaint, the video was created using artificial intelligence (AI) technology to falsely attribute socially sensitive remarks to UDF candidates with the aim of causing religious polarization and disturbing public harmony in the constituency.
The UDF termed the development as “serious and unprecedented” and called on the Election Commission to intervene urgently to protect the integrity of the electoral process. He stressed that the distribution of manipulated content is a direct attempt to mislead voters and influence public opinion through systematic disinformation.
