Rinku Singh is in the midst of controversy after an AI-generated video featuring Hindu gods was posted from his official Facebook account. The video, which quickly gained attention on social media, faced huge backlash from members of the Karni Sena, who have now approached the police for action against the Indian cricketer.
The video shows Rinku Singh playing cricket shots with the caption, “Who made you a cricketer?” The clip then cuts to an animated AI-generated visual of Lord Shiva, Lord Hanuman, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Ganesha sitting inside a Thar vehicle. The video shows the deities wearing black sunglasses, Lord Hanuman driving a car, and English music playing in the background.
Why is Karni Sena angry?
The content of the video infuriated Karni Sena members who claimed it hurt religious sentiments. On Sunday, Karni Sena district chief Sumit Tomar along with some supporters visited Aligarh’s Sasni Gate police station and filed a formal complaint against Rinku Singh. They accused the cricketer of inappropriately portraying and disrespecting Hindu gods.
Tomar told the media that Rinku Singh had insulted his religious beliefs and demanded strict action. “Rinku Singh is part of Shah Rukh Khan’s IPL team, Kolkata Knight Riders. Like Shah Rukh, Rinku too has revealed his true spirituality. It is a faith play where we have our God wearing black glasses, riding a tar and showing him dancing to English songs,” he said.
“Karni Sena will not tolerate this. Rinku Singh should join hands with Sanatan Dharma and apologize publicly. The government should immediately file an FIR against Rinku Singh. If no action is taken, the organization will take to the streets and launch a massive agitation,” he added.
Police say they are proceeding with the investigation carefully. The in-charge of Sasnigate Police Station confirmed that a written complaint had been received and the matter was under consideration. He said the authenticity of the video, including whether it was created, edited and uploaded by Link Singh himself, will be verified before any legal action is taken. Officials added that appropriate action would be taken only after conducting a detailed investigation.
