The number of job openings that mention artificial intelligence has been rising in recent years as employers seek AI-savvy workers. Recent reports from the Brookings facility show that in the last year alone, AI-themed job postings have increased by more than 100%.
Based on research findings based on data from labor market analytics firm Lightcast, AI-related job bookings have grown at an average annual rate of nearly 29% over the past 15 years.
The demand for AI expertise is increasing in number as AI begins to integrate it into workflows. The share of companies using AI in the manufacturing sector has more than doubled from 4% in early 2023 to about 9% in mid-2025, citing data from the U.S. Census Bureau's Business Trends and Outlook Survey (BTO).
However, AI employment growth has accelerated in recent years, making up only a small portion of the entire labor market. Investment bank Goldman Sachs estimates that the peak adoption pace will be hit in the early 2030s.
“AI is definitely visible in micro-labor market data, but it doesn't seem to drive the dynamics of the entire laboramics,” said Joseph Briggs, senior global economist at Goldman Sachs.
What kind of AI job?
The fast-growing AI job market includes a combination of skill sets, ranging from advanced AI-specific roles such as AI engineers to more common AI-related positions such as software developers, according to Elena Magrini, global head of Light Cast.
According to Brookings, in 2025, it mentioned AI skills, which have more than 80,000 job openings in 2010, from 3,780 to 80,000 jobs.
Cory Stahle, economist at the End-Hiring Lab, said in an email to CBS MoneyWatch that accelerated adoption of AI by businesses is spurring the demand for consultants who can help businesses integrate AI. In fact, the job duties associated with so-called responsible AI jobs that focus on the ethical use of AI tools in business are actually increasing.
“In other words, the definition of what it means to be an AI job is changing every day as businesses find new and creative ways to responsibly incorporate technology,” says Stahle.
AI positions tend to be associated with higher pay, which may prove a particularly attractive sector of the US labor market. Another LightCast report shows job postings that pay $18,000 a year, or 28% a year, or 28% a year, compared to similar roles that do not require AI skills.
Where can I find AI jobs?

Although intake in the geographical field is uneven, Muro said he expects employers to see AI adoption grasping its benefits and limitations over the next few years.
“It seems like there's a good consensus that this is very important to productivity and it really energizes local leaders and business people,” he said.
