Veteran lyricist and author Javed Akhtar has strongly condemned AI-generated fake videos circulating on social media, calling them misleading and warning them to “report them to the cyber police”.

Akhtar expressed his displeasure and warned that strict legal action would be taken against those involved in generating and sharing fake content.

“There is a fake video circulating showing a fake computer-generated photo of me with a topic on its head claiming that I ultimately turned to God. This is crap. I am seriously considering reporting this to the cyber police and ultimately dragging the person responsible for this fake news and the few people who forwarded it to court for damaging my reputation and credibility,” he wrote to X.

The incident once again highlights growing concerns about the misuse of artificial intelligence, particularly as it becomes increasingly difficult to distinguish between genuine and manipulated content online. Celebrities are often easy targets for such digital abuse due to their high profile.

Recently, actor Bhagyashree reflected on the growing trend of artificial intelligence, particularly its impact on celebrity culture and social media. In an interview with ANI, the actor opened up about how both celebrities and common people become easy targets for AI. “There are things we can't say, but AI can do that by modulating lip-syncing. As long as AI is used for marketing and improvement, it's fine, but this is very harmful. It's very difficult to tell the good from the bad,” Bhagyashree said.

The actor highlighted how people are often misled by AI-generated content on the internet.

“How can the average person detect it? We're in this space and we know that things like that are powered by AI and digital. We can't detect it yet,” she added.

Bhagyashree expressed her concern at a time when many celebrities are being exposed to deepfake content and the misuse of artificial intelligence.

Actress Sreeela also spoke out against the move, calling on social media users to act responsibly and not support AI-generated content that violates the dignity of individuals. The actress shared a strong message on Instagram to raise awareness and wrote, “I join hands and ask all social media users not to support AI-generated nonsense.

There is a difference between using and abusing technology. In my opinion, advances in technology simplify life, not complicate it,” she wrote. Highlighting the far-reaching impact of such misuse, Sreeela stressed the importance of respect and safety for women across professions.

Meanwhile, several celebrities including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Nagarjuna and Karan Johar have also come forward seeking legal protection for their moral rights.
