Veteran scriptwriter and lyricist Javed Akhtar has joined the list of celebrities speaking out against the misuse of artificial intelligence after a fake AI-generated video falsely claimed to have “turned to God”.

The video, which has gone viral on social media, shows a computer-generated image of an 80-year-old man wearing a skull hat.

On Thursday, he slammed the video on X (formerly Twitter), calling it misleading and offensive.

He shared a Facebook link to the clip and made it clear that he was not taking the issue lightly.

of Sholai “There's a fake video out there showing a fake computer-generated photo of me with a topic over my head saying I finally turned to God. That's bullshit,” the co-author wrote.

He added: “I am seriously considering reporting this to the cyber police and ultimately dragging the person responsible for this fake news and the few who forwarded it to court for damaging my reputation and credibility.”

The AI-generated image surfaced shortly after Javed Akhtar participated in a public discussion with Islamic scholar Mufti Shamail Nadwi in New Delhi.

The debate, titled 'Does God Exist?', was held at the Indian Constitution Club and attracted attention online, which many believe led to the creation of fake content.

Javed's outburst comes days after actor and MP Kangana Ranaut and actress Sreeela expressed similar concerns.

Concerns about AI abuse and digital privacy continue to grow in the film industry as more celebrities speak out, leading to moral rights protections in the courts.
