Riccitiello: I think AI will change the game in some very profound ways. For one thing, games will be made faster, cheaper, and better. it’s already happening. So AI can already be used to speed up digital humans, editing environments, and just about anything else. Experiences that were previously impossible will become possible.

Q: Can you give some examples?

Rich Tierro: You know Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, and Candy Crush. In any of these games, everything you see in that game, every dialogue, every environment, every lighting effect is coded in anticipation of someone using it. The boundaries of the game are therefore the content stored on the DVD or Internet download. No more. it is what it is. More features can be added over time by patching the game and adding levels. Richtiello: So they keep adding it. But each is an embodied experience. So in 2000, I helped launch The Sims, and it was a great game. And do you know how they used “simlish”? Did you know why? There are so many things you can do in The Sims, and because you are actually creating a character, you can have so many interactions. These characters interact. No writer can write all the dialogues that are worth it. When completed, it will be as big as the Library of Congress.

Q: I think I know where you’re going with this.

A: You know where I’m going. The way GPT 4 works, you can define parameters. This can be done by the player or by the game studio. The game studio may allow the player to describe this character or her motivations and return the conversation in the same way they describe it in the prompt. And you can do this in advance for all characters. AI can be generated in any language, including English, Russian, Japanese, and French. I think it’s groundbreaking. In fact, it’s very difficult to overstate how important it is. alive.

Another example is one of my most favorite games, Grand Theft Auto. And a lot of people like Red Dead (Redemption) because it’s such a wonderfully realized world. The creators of Take-Two Rockstar Games, Sam and Dan Hauser, are among the most powerful creators of all time. Again, with all the store heists, everything in the game was what they thought possible. Now what you can do is you can create that world and you can basically create a series of things like ‘this is the store’, ‘this is’. Q: What are your thoughts on the Metaverse?

A: I always thought the word was meaningful and a little silly. I gave a talk a few years ago that I banned Unity people from using it because I thought it was overused and thrown in the trash. It was being used and abused by people for their own purposes.

But then I defined the metaverse as something completely different than what most people do.

Q: How is it defined?

A: I said this is the next version of the internet. It’s 3D, not 2D. It’s more permanent than it isn’t, and it’s more real-time than it isn’t. And it is often many other things. And I tried to explain what is not. It wasn’t about Avatar, it wasn’t about XR. It certainly wasn’t about half-embodied avatars (which were built on Unity by Meta, by the way). We were so glad they built it and paid us for it, but I didn’t realize it was like that.

Customers like Hyundai are building futuristic factories where all robots and humans interact and control it in this massive environment. And factory workers are working on iPhones.

It’s not going to be one universal 3D world. I think it has the potential to be a very immersive experience. And a lot of people, in a way that doesn’t convince me, are like, “No, you want to go to Amazon, and I think you’re going straight into Call of Duty and going straight into there.” “I watch an NFL show and then I go straight into chat. What if I want to throw a bomb?
