Indonesia is on track to achieve its sovereign AI goals with Nvidia, Cisco and IOH

AI News

As one of the world's largest emerging markets, Indonesia is heading towards the “Golden 2045 Vision,” an initiative that taps on digital technology and brings together governments, businesses, startups and higher education to enhance productivity, efficiency and innovation across the industry.

Building the country's AI infrastructure is an important part of this plan.

That's why Indonesian telecommunications leader Indosat Audooo Hutchison (aka Indosat or IOH) has partnered with Cisco and Nvidia to help establish the AI Excellence (COE) in Indonesia. The COE, led by the Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs, known as Komdigi, aims to promote secure technology, develop local talent and promote innovation through collaboration with startups.

Vikram Sinha, President and CEO of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, Cisco Chair and CEO Chuck Robbins, and Senior Vice President of Nvidia, are Senior Vice President of Telecom Ronnie Vasishta, detailing the purpose and potential of COE during a fireside chat on Indonesia AI Day.

As part of the COE, the new NVIDIA AI Technology Center will provide research support, the benefits of the NVIDIA Inception program for eligible startups, and certification to train NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute and ponder local talent.

“With the support of our global partners, we are accelerating Indonesia's path to economic growth by ensuring that Indonesians are not just AI users, but creators and innovators,” added Sinha.

“In the age of AI, there is a need for a workforce with basic architectural change and digital skills to flourish,” Robbins said. “Together with Indosat, Nvidia and Komdigi, Cisco will safely drive the AI Center of Excellence. It will enable innovation and skill development and accelerate Indonesia's growth.”

“Democratizing AI is more important than ever,” Vasishta added. “Through the new NVIDIA AI Technology Center, Indonesia is helping to build a sustainable AI ecosystem that serves as a model for countries seeking to leverage AI for innovation and economic growth.”

Make AI more accessible

Indonesia AI COE consists of an AI factory with full stack NVIDIA AI infrastructure, including NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs, NVIDIA Cloud Partner Reference Architecture, and NVIDIA AI Enterprise Software, as well as an AI factory that includes Cisco-equipped intelligent security systems.

Called the Sovereign Security Operations Center Cloud Platform, Cisco-equipped systems combine AI-based threat detection, localized data control and managed security services from AI factories.

Based on the Sovereign AI Initiative, the technology leader announced at NVIDIA last year by Indonesia's technology leaders, and COE will strengthen the country's AI strategy through four core pillars.

The graphics include four core pillars of a strategic approach to work. 1) Sovereign infrastructure: Establishing an AI infrastructure for secure, scalable, high-performance AI workloads tailored to Indonesia's digital ambitions. 2) AI Workload Safety: Use Cisco's intellectual infrastructure to connect and protect the country's digital assets and intellectual property. 3) AI All AI: By 2027, hundreds of millions of Indonesians will access AI, breaking geographical barriers and empowering developers across the country. 4) Human Resources and Development Ecosystem: By 2027, we aim to equip one million people with digital skills in networking, security and AI.

Approximately 28 independent software vendors and startups are already using IOH's NVIDIA-powered AI infrastructure to develop cutting-edge technologies that can speed up and mitigate workflows across higher education and research, food security, bureaucratic reform, smart cities and mobility, and healthcare.

With IndoSat's archipelago coverage, the company is able to reach hundreds of millions of Bahasa Indonesian speakers with applications powered by its large language model (LLM).

For example, using the Sahabat-ai collection of Bahasa Indonesia LLMS in India Sat, the Indonesian government and Hippocrates AI are working together to develop an AI agent system that provides preventive outreach capabilities, including supporting female subscribers over the age of 50. This can help prevent or combat breast cancer and other health complications.

Apart from that, Sahabat-AI allows IndoSat AI chatbots to answer Indonesian queries for the services of various citizens and residents. People can ask about the process of renewing their national identification cards, tax rates, payment procedures, deductions, and more.

Additionally, the government-led forum is developing a reliable AI framework tailored to Indonesia's values for the safe and responsible development of artificial intelligence and related policies.

Indosat and NVIDIA will deploy AI-RAN technology that can use AI to reach a wider audience using wireless networks.
