Manoj Tumu, 23, an Indian-American machine learning engineer, recently quit his high-paid job on Amazon and joined Meta.
He had won an annual package of 3.36 crores on Amazon.
After leaving Amazon, he is currently planning to receive a package of over USD 400,000 (3.52 crores) from his new employer.
He wrote in Business Insider: “In June, I left Amazon and joined Meta as a machine learning software engineer with a total reward of over USD 400,000.
Speaking about machine learning, he said: “Machine learning has been a huge shift. Previously, using classical techniques was much more embraced, relying on humans to make decisions about data representation. Now we focus on deep learning to use artificial neural networks to automatically learn features from raw data.”
He emphasized the need for experience as a key to success, and thus urged students to take an internship.
“Experience is the biggest factor. Try to get all sorts of internships in college. I think they stand out the most. When you look at your resumes that people post online and seek advice, you see projects and programming languages taking up space,” he said.
He also said that people should consider doing low-paid jobs first when giving proper exposure to machine learning.
“I chose the low-paid machine learning role before I started working at Amazon.
