Speaking at the India AI Impact Summit in Delhi, Prime Minister Modi also opposed misuse of AI and ensured clear labeling of AI content to remove fear of AI. Key highlights of PM Modi’s speech include:
*Prime Minister Modi said the pace at which the world’s youth are embracing and owning AI is commendable. He said there is great enthusiasm for the AI Summit among young people.
* “We must be more vigilant about the safety of our children. Just as school curricula are carefully curated, the AI space should also be safe for children and guided by families. There are two kinds of people in the world today: those who are scared of AI and those who see opportunity in AI. I say this with responsibility and pride. We are not scared. India sees opportunity in AI. We have the talent, the energy, the capabilities and the policy clarity. I am also happy to share that three Indian companies have launched AI models and apps at this summit. These models reflect the strength of our youth’s talent and India’s growing leadership in AI.
*Prime Minister Modi said that the world is entering an era where humans and intelligent systems co-create, co-work and co-evolve. He said AI will make work smarter, more efficient and more impactful.
-The Prime Minister said India is home to the world’s largest youth population, one of the largest technology talent pools and an advanced technology-enabled ecosystem. India is not only creating new technologies but also deploying them at an unprecedented pace, he added.
* Prime Minister Modi said that AI is making machines intelligent, but more than that, it is making humans many times more capable. The only difference is that this time, the speed is unprecedented and the scale is unexpected. “Previously, it took decades for the impact of a technology to become visible. Today, the journey from machine learning to machine learning is faster, deeper, and broader than ever before,” he said.
* The Prime Minister said that when signals were first transmitted wirelessly, no one imagined that one day the whole world would be connected in real time. He added that artificial intelligence is a transformation in human history, and what the world is seeing and predicting today is only the beginning of its impact.
* “The presence of the younger generation has given us renewed confidence… There was also great enthusiasm at the AI Summit exhibition, especially with the participation of young talent. The solutions presented here are strong examples of the strength of ‘Made in India’ and India’s innovative capabilities in this field, from agriculture and security to disability assistance and the needs of a large population,” he said.
*Prime Minister Modi said the real question today is not what artificial intelligence can do in the future, but what is being done with AI today. “Humanity has faced such questions before. The most powerful example is nuclear power, where we have seen both its destructive potential and its positive contribution. AI is also a transformative force. If misdirected, it can bring chaos; if guided well, it can bring solutions,” the Prime Minister said.
* The prime minister said the key challenge was “how do we make AI human-centred rather than machine-centred, sensitive and accountable?” That is the core objective of this Global AI Impact Commission, he said. “How does India view AI? India’s vision is reflected in the theme of this summit: ‘Sarvajan hitai, Sarvajan sky’ – welfare for all, happiness for all. This is our standard,” PM Modi said.
