This similar essay is based on a conversation with Charlie Hills. a A 27-year-old marketing and AI expert who helps the London-based brand grow their LinkedIn followers. Edited for length and clarity.
When I started posting content on LinkedIn in January 2024 on LinkedIn, I posted six times a week, presented all the knowledge I had, and got little of what I liked.
After that, I changed my approach and everything changed.
In a year and a half, I grew to 132,000 followers and even quit my job in corporate marketing to join the agency I founded through the success of LinkedIn. Here's how to use AI to highlight and post content effectively:
I made a mistake with post and ghost
My interest in AI began around 2019 when Elon Musk predicted a trajectory that surpasses human intelligence. I worked full time and whenever I had time I posted about AI, mainly due to my passion for this subject.
For the first three months I posted and ghosted. That is, you shared content without sticking to interact with other people's posts or join the conversation. I envisioned posts ranging from insights into new AI development to breakdowns of practical applications for AI tools. I was wrong.
Building relationships and authority was my key to gaining 100,000 followers
At the end of the day, I realized that LinkedIn is a social media platform and doesn't actually socialize or build a community.
I commented on the post, celebrated the victory of other creators, and started the conversation out of true admiration and curiosity. Demed creators I enjoyed, whether or not the content I enjoyed was in my ai niche.
One creator suggested changing my profile picture to a zoom-in photo of a smiley face, while another advised me to treat my LinkedIn as a landing page.
The people I connected started working on my LinkedIn profile
The people I connected started reposting, liking, sharing my posts and my engagement started shooting.
I've grown to about 30,000 followers in six months. This allowed me to start posting LinkedIn's growth tips and launch an agency.
I quit my full-time job in September 2024 and began seeing concrete opportunities on LinkedIn, including agency clients and brand dealings. I mainly make money on LinkedIn through sponsored posts and convert my audience to customers at my agency.
I outsource help and use AI as a tool
One of the best things I did for me and my business was hiring professional designers to improve my graphics. My current process is creating content strategy and design briefs, and freelance designers create graphics that cost between $30-50 per design. I feel that the strong graphics attract readers' attention and add elements of professionalism and authority to my words.
I also put the graphics into AI using detailed prompts to improve the captions. I start by providing as much information as possible to GPT as possible, including my name, expertise, and even how to speak. Next, feed the graphics and provide detailed instructions to follow.
I'll tell GPT exactly how to format my caption
The first line of the caption must attract attention, and the second line must be contrasted.
GPT encourages readers to build a plot, break down key points and give them a power ending. Comply with AI-specific character restrictions for each line of the prompt.
By codifying my process as much as possible, I have given me time to focus on strategy, brand growth and building essential relationships.
Anyone can create good content using AI. This is how I make myself stand out.
By posting seven times a week, I think it solidified me as a reliable point of authority in my niche. In this particular niche, we see viewers consistently responding to LinkedIn's growth tips and ChatGpt-related things.
But most of all, my content resonates with most people when it comes to drawing in personal experiences and creating something unique to me. For example, instead of “how here” you might use the phrase “how here”:
Showing my humanity with my content and really connecting with the people on LinkedIn is key to successful content.
