AI technology has exploded in recent weeks. From being smart enough to write a movie script to engaging parking fines, there aren’t many chatbots designed to answer questions and respond like humans.
As Blackpool gears up for summer break, ranks live Ask ChatGPT to plan a cheap day at your resort and put the technology to the test. Ask a simple question: “Would you like to plan a cheap day out in Blackpool?”
It only took me a few seconds to receive my 7-step itinerary, but the AI made some interesting suggestions, such as visiting the illuminations that ended months ago on January 2nd.

The first thing to note is that ChatGPT focused on the word ‘cheap’ and deliberately overlooked some of Blackpool’s most popular and expensive attractions.
Pleasure Beach, The SandCastle, SEA LIFE Centre, Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum and Blackpool Zoo all missed out. Instead, AI provided a number of free and affordable activities such as strolling through the winter gardens and exploring the boardwalks.
We also asked AI to plan a weekend city break in Manchester for under £300. Find out how we got here.
Another thing to note is that the information provided is not completely accurate. Step 2 offers a visit to the iconic Blackpool Tower. But instead of paying to visit the observation deck at the top, we recommend visiting the “free entry” Winter Ballroom.
However, admission tickets to the Tower Ballroom start at £11.50. This is reasonably priced compared to other attractions, but it’s not free as AI says.
Although Blackpool has three piers, North Pier is the only pier on the list. Both the Central and South Piers have arcades, like the North Pier, but they also have rides, making them a definite alternative to Pleasure Beach.
AI also suggested going to the famous Blackpool Illuminations, but didn’t mention that they hadn’t been lit for six months. However, it’s free, so if you visit between September and he January, it fits the “cheap” criteria.
Here is ChatGPT’s full response
Yes, here are our plans for a cheap day out in Blackpool.
1. Start your day with a walk along the boardwalk and enjoy the sights and sounds of the beach and sea.
2. Visit Blackpool Tower, but instead of going to the top, stroll through the free-entry Tower Ballroom.
3. Head to North Pier for free entertainment all day, including live music and street performers.
4. Grab a cheap lunch at one of the many fish and chip shops along the coast and eat it on the beach.
5. Stroll through the Winter Gardens. Admission to the main building is free, and several exhibitions are on display.
6. Visit the Art Deco Pavilion Theater, which often hosts free or low-cost events during the day.
7. End the day with a trip to the illuminations. The illuminations are free to view and illuminate the seaside after sunset.
Overall, this cheap day out in Blackpool offers plenty of entertainment and sights without breaking the bank.
