A Chinese team successfully defended its Humanoid League title at the world’s largest AI robot competition, RoboCup 2026, held in Incheon, South Korea.
Tsinghua University’s THU Huoshen team won the competition against Booster T1, a humanoid robot developed by China’s Booster Robotics.
The winning team’s autonomous soccer robots demonstrated advanced perception, decision-making, and cooperative behavior in one of the world’s most demanding robotics competitions.
Recently, Beijing hosted the RoBoLeague World Robot Soccer League, where fully autonomous humanoid robots competed in what organizers are calling the world’s first 3-on-3 soccer match without human intervention.

RoboCup 2026, the world’s largest AI and robotics competition, concluded in Incheon, South Korea, attracting approximately 3,000 participants from 45 countries as the largest event since 1997.
The 2026 edition, often referred to as the “World Cup of Robotics,” saw 364 teams from 45 countries compete in multiple robotic disciplines. The event was held in Incheon from June 30th to July 6th and was attended by researchers, university teams, students, and industry personnel.
One of the event’s biggest attractions was the Humanoid Soccer League, where robots attempted to pass, dribble, defend, and shoot from long range in a game similar to human soccer. According to Booster Robotics, previous RoboCup events required competitors to design mechanical systems, develop hardware, and create basic motion controls, consuming significant research and development resources. Teams demonstrated more fluid movement, stronger teamwork, and increasingly sophisticated AI-driven behavior during autonomous soccer matches, reflecting the rapid advances in embodied AI.
Industry observers noted that although humanoid robots still cannot match the skill, agility and adaptability of human professional soccer players, progress has accelerated significantly in recent years.
