Robert Lange, director of admissions at Christopher Newport University, said he is closely monitoring AI-generated admissions essays and is considering other methods.

English professor Jason Carney said he could spot the difference between what someone actually wrote and what the bot spits out.

“Human intelligence is still very much needed to write good writing,” he said. “ChatGPT is no match for a good professional stylist today.”

Carney said the truth will come out eventually.

“When you use ChatGPT to present yourself as an intellectual, it ultimately tells your professor that there is a disconnect here.”

But he worries about this:

“A job letter, an entrance exam essay, a situation where you don’t have the knowledge to clarify this is the person’s job,” he said. .”

Langely said the technology is a double-edged sword.

“The good news of the technology fraud process is that there is usually technology on the other side of the detection,” he said.
