At this point, hiring Meta's employment to keep up with the artificial intelligence race is nothing new. However, as he aims for “Superintelligence,” just as he aims for Mark Zuckerberg and his band of geniuses, new details have been revealed about Meta's paying some of these talents and others who refused a better offer.
Some people like the co-founder of Andrew Tulloch's Mira Murati, who also didn't rock the $1.5 billion salary package, but things like former Apple AI models teamheads, Ruoming Pang and Shengjia Zhao, jumped at the opportunity.
According to a report by the New York Times, the new name is taking part in a mix of young AI researcher Matt Deitke, who joined the newly set up Superintelligence Labs unit after a personal chat with Mark Zuckerberg.
Deitke was initially offered about $125 million in equity and cash compensation over four years, but the 24-year-old AI researcher refused. Zuckerberg reportedly met Deitke personally and returned to him over four years with an offer of around $250 million, with up to $100 million in his first year.
Similar reports on Zuckerberg's meeting with other potential recruits have been made in the past few weeks when CEO Meta tries to get his company back on track in AI races with the aim of building “super intelligence” that refers to a hypothetical stage where even the most advanced humans beat faster than their rivals. In this attempt, Zuckerberg poached talents such as Openai, Anthropic, Google, and Apple among other companies.
In its revenue report released Wednesday, Meta said its capital expenditures would reach up to $72 billion in 2025, from $30 billion a year ago.
Who is Matt Date?
Deitke is a recent dropout for his PhD in Computer Science. University of Washington Program. He previously had been moonlighted at the Seattle AI Lab, known as the Allen Artificial Intelligence Institute. During his stay at the company, Deitke led the development of a project called Molmo. This is an AI chatbot that juggles images, sounds and text similar to the system that Meta is trying to build.
Deitke and several other Allen Institute colleagues have founded an AI startup aimed at creating an AI agent called Vercept. The company has around 10 employees and raises $16.5 million from investors, including former Google CEO Eric Schmidt.
