Honeywell Enters AI Battery Manufacturing Platform
Honeywell announced the release of its Battery Manufacturing Excellence Platform (Battery MXP), an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered software solution designed to optimize gigafactory operations from day one by improving battery cell yields and speeding up manufacturer facility ramp-up.
With traditional standalone solutions, battery manufacturers could experience material waste rates as high as 30 percent at steady state and even higher during the facility's ramp-up process. This approach could waste millions of dollars in energy and materials while the gigafactory gradually scales up to efficient and profitable production over several years, Honeywell said in a media statement.
Battery MXP incorporates AI techniques into its manufacturing process to detect and correct quality issues before they lead to material waste. The solution uses machine learning to identify conditions that lead to quality issues and translates this data into action-oriented insights that manufacturers can use to improve efficiency and productivity.
By providing powerful data that improves quality control and decision-making on the factory floor, Battery MXP is designed to help manufacturers shorten production ramp-up times, reduce ramp-up material waste rates by 60%, and increase delivery rates to meet the growing demand for lithium-based batteries.

Battery MXP provides bidirectional traceability and lineage to track battery cells in real time, from raw materials to finished products, ensuring product quality at every stage. The solution also addresses other key challenges faced by battery manufacturers by providing solutions for process control, workforce management, and fire prevention from battery thermal runaway. These safety elements help keep both Gigafactory operators and battery end users safe.
