Grammarly has introduced a suite of artificial intelligence (AI) agents designed to address specific lighting-related challenges. The company announced new tools on Monday, placing them as part of the AI native writing interface. Docs is free for all users, but access to AI agents is reserved for paid subscribers.
The new approach rethinks grammar as more than a proposal tool, and instead presents it as a structured productivity platform built on Agent AI. Within the document, users can access a variety of agents tailored to their tasks, such as writing directly, proofreading, citation checking, and plagiarism detection. Built-in AI assistants can also be used to brainstorm, summaries and provide feedback.
“We're moving beyond simple suggestions to move towards intelligent agents who understand the context and actively help users achieve their communication goals,” said Luke Behnke, vice president of product management at Grammarly.
The company confirmed that eight different AI agents will be available at launch.
• Leader Response: Simulates how your target audience responds, providing key points and potential questions.
• AI Grader: Designed for students, this tool estimates possible grades and provides instructor-style feedback.
• Quote Finder: Automatically find and insert references to support or challenge claims.
• Expert Review: Acts as an expert on the subject and provides technical and detailed input.
•Proofreader: Provides inline modifications that are appropriate for the writer's style and target audience.
•AI Detector: Evaluates text to identify whether the part is written by a human or AI.
•Plagiarism Checker: Cross-reference databases, papers, and published works flag unreliable similarities.
•Paraphraser: Adjusts tone, style and clarity to suit a variety of contexts.
The grammar stated that traditional AI tools require multiple prompts and improvements, which could take time for students and professionals. However, the new model aims to provide targeted, context-conscious support with fewer steps.
By segmenting AI support into professional roles, Grammarly aims to create more efficient workflows for academic, creative and business writing.
