A special workshop on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in journalism took place on Saturday in Gulshan, Dhaka, and equipped reporters with hands-on training on the latest AI tools for news editing, content creation and multimedia integration.

The session entitled “Journalism In Journalism” was held jointly at the Bin Office by the Technology Media Guild Bangladesh (TMGB) and Bangladesh ICT and Innovation Network (BIN). Alifuru Islam Ahman, head of the New Media Initiative at Dhaka Post, served as trainer.

In a welcome statement, TMGB President Mohammad Kausal Uddin described the training as a “timely initiative of journalists,” adding, “I am very grateful for organising the bin.”

Syed Almas Kabir, chairman of Bin Trust and former president of Base, highlighted the growing need for technology-driven expertise in the industry. “This is the age of information technology. Don't make someone skilled by a degree alone. Technology-based expertise has been key,” he said.

Kabir also announced that the Bangladesh ICT and Innovation Awards 2025 will soon be launched and will showcase home-made innovations, technology companies and creative initiatives on national and global platforms. The winners will be nominated for international competitions.

Organizers noted that AI is already reshaping global journalism by transforming news collection, fact-checking and content production. Similar training programs are expected to expand in Bangladesh, increasing the skills of journalists and responding to global media trends.
