

The National Executive of the Ghana National Association of Clinical Laboratory Scientists has praised the focus on cutting-edge AI applications at GPHA Takoradi Hospital’s 2024 Lab Week celebrations.
Different from the general National Testing Week theme named “The Lab is Everything”, the sub-theme chosen by GPHA Takoradi Hospital was “The Future of Laboratory Services and Application of AI in Ghana”.
Dr. Abu Abdu Rahmani, President of the Ghana Association of Clinical Laboratory Scientists, focuses on AI at the GPHA Takoradi Hospital Laboratory Week Celebration, even though most laboratories in Ghana are yet to undertake such initiatives. described the sub-theme as pace-setting efforts in line with international trends. “Artificial intelligence has emerged to revolutionize the workspace of medical laboratories. Currently, we know that the trends in this system are not as high as we would like, and most laboratories have not yet understood that.” “We are trying to strategize in terms of applying artificial intelligence in our workspaces,” he said.
GPHA Takoradi Hospital Administrator Dr. Helen Tettey also explained the reason for and preparations for this year’s Lab Week celebrations.
“One of the things we try to do as a hospital is provide a one-stop-shop health care to our clients, not only in terms of consultation but also testing support. Thankfully, the GPHA management team “We were able to obtain certain equipment that we were very helpful in acquiring, and we are now able to perform most of the clinical tests that our clients require,” she said.
Other activities undertaken as part of GPHA Takoradi Hospital's 2024 Lab Week celebrations included health education, free testing to the port community, and free donation of 100 blood glucose meters to diabetic patients.
