At Google I/O 2026 on Tuesday, new AI model And its functionality overflows from the presentation stage. One is called Gemini Spark, which Google says is a personal AI agent that runs 24/7 and performs actions on your behalf.
Spark’s purpose is a bit broader, as explained in Stages, but it’s meant to run projects in the background and collect data from the web and various sources. google Software accounts (Gmail, Docs, Chat, etc.).
Google’s presenter gave some examples of how Spark can help. One was to compile information from documents and messages into a summary of the week’s wins and send a work email to the team. Another big job was planning the block party, tallying the RSVPs, keeping track of who brought what, and contacting those who didn’t respond. Spark can then generate a file that shows your progress, much like an RSVP tracker that updates every time it detects an email response in Gmail.

Spark’s pitch is to explain all the little things you would otherwise forget. The party planning example can identify limitations and considerations to avoid violating homeowner association rules. It runs in the background and updates as new information comes in. In another scenario described later in the presentation, Spark can be seen on her calendar being assigned to bring snacks to her child’s T-ball game and order food on Instacart to ensure it arrives on time.
Presenters suggested more assistant-focused ways to use Spark, such as listening to your brain’s thought dumps and putting them together. Examples given on stage included sending a reminder to contact a new friend from a party the night before and asking an AI agent to create a deadline for a list of everything parents need to take care of for their student children by the summer. This is in line with other AI features showcased at I/O 2026, such as Docs Live. Docs Live similarly organizes your mental ramblings into coherent text.
Google Spark will be coming to search later this year.
Spark will be available to Trusted Testers this week and to Google AI subscribers next week, but only to those signed up to the new $100/month tier or the newly reduced $200/month Ultra tier.
For everyone else, Spark will be available in Chrome later this summer, allowing you to use it directly in your browser. Later this year, Google plans to release Android Halo, a dedicated home base for AI agents on phones, which will likely include Spark.
