During the recent I/O conference, Google's Gemini AI made a mistake during a video search demonstration.
As part of the demo, Google presented a video of a broken film camera and asked its AI to identify the problem. However, the AI gave an incorrect explanation.
One notable suggestion from Gemini was to open the back door of the camera and gently remove the film. This is an action that can expose your photos to light and damage them.
This isn't Google AI's first failure.
This isn't the first time Google's AI has been found to be providing incorrect information.
Previously, the company's Bard chatbot (now called Gemini) falsely claimed that the James Webb Space Telescope had captured the first image of a planet outside our solar system.
However, it was the European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope (VLT) that took the first photo of an exoplanet in 2004.
This factual error reduced the company's market capitalization by $100 billion.
Search by video is still an experimental feature
Video search experiment leveraging Google's generative AI model Gemini. This new feature will allow users to search her web using videos instead of text or images.
Gemini analyzes videos in real-time, identifies objects and actions, and provides relevant search results in the form of AI summaries.
It is especially aimed at younger generations who are used to using video for communication.
This feature will be experimentally available in Search Labs for users in the United States.
